Interfor – Adams Lake
GIS and data analysis, integration of info systems, mapping. Woodfinder services.
Analysis of Interfor’s entire Kamloops operating area to identify available volume and support an effective timber recce program. Work is being completed annually, incorporating previous year’s recce results, development plan and annual updates to the “acceptable timber specifications.”
Forsite was able to overcome challenges associated with the accuracy of the forest inventory and ability to incorporate information from the provincial government’s tenures and silviculture systems. Working with Interfor we have helped them develop a recce database and integrated this with both their information management system and the annual Woodfinder analysis.
Available wood is challenging to locate given stewardship, timber and engineering realities. We are able to provide information that allows Interfor to implement an effective annual timber recce program that focuses the effort of their field crews and increases the identification of volume that is available for their development program.
Available timber reports and maps (pdf and webmapping products) are provided for the operating area as a whole, for subregions and specific drainages or landscape units. Comparisons to previous years analysis allows for an understanding of how timber availability changes over time and how adjusted “acceptable timber specs” influences potentially available timber.
